March is Women’s History Month
The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. (Women’s History Month.)
In honor of Women’s History Month, Families Together in NYS recognizes Journalist Nellie Bly for her role in exposing the horrific conditions that were being endured by mental patients at Blackwell’s Island, an infamous mental health facility. Her expose resulted in significant changes in New York City’s Dept. of Charities and Corrections, which led the way for changes and improvements in the way people with mental health conditions are treated today.
