New York City Six Dates: 11/28, 11/29, 11/30, 12/5, 12/6 or 12/7 Locations: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem  | (See the registration page for the date it is offered at each location.) The Community Health Worker Workforce Initiative is offering six How Bail Works workshops, facilitated by Richard Gamarra, for CHWs on 11/28, 11/29, 11/30, 12/5, 12/6 and 12/7. Richard has extensive experience working to address inequalities caused by criminal justice issues and has in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system. As a former Community Health Worker working with formerly incarcerated clients, he knows first-hand the value of CHWs and the resources needed to better support individuals who have been exposed to the criminal justice system. Through this workshop, CHW participants will be able to:
  • Understand that exposure to the criminal justice system is a health issue and creates significant economic barriers
  • Understand how bail works, from the logistics behind posting bail to the organizations that provide bail services
  • Explore how CHWs can be more equitable in their work with individuals exposed to the criminal justice system
