Joseph P. Dwyer was an Army combat medic from Mt. Sinai, New York, who became famous for an iconic photograph of him helping an Iraqi boy. Dwyer died of suicide on June 28, 2008 after returning home. The Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project was named in his honor.

CompeerCORP is a program in Rochester, New York that is a great place to volunteer — if you want to help Veterans and their families, as well as to receive support if you are a Veteran or family member. http://compeerrochester.org/compeercorps/
